Driver Training

Driver training is considered to be a key component of managing a company’s risk.

Why Fleet Managers Need to Manage Risk

Driving is a high-risk activity. At least a third of all deaths on the road involve a vehicle being used for work purposes.

Reducing the number of work-related driving incidents is seen as a major issue by health and safety and transportation authorities and agencies.

Employers are not just obliged to abide by transportation compliance requirements they must also comply with health and safety legislation that applies to all work-related activities including driving.

Undertaking work-related road risk assessments and implementing the appropriate interventions which actively reduces the risks faced by individual drivers demonstrates a commitment to not only the safety and well-being of your employers, but also, compliance with global best practice.

An effective fleet risk management strategy will also lead to reduced business costs and the demonstration of corporate social responsibility.

DriverCare have a number of driver training programs available which can be tailored to suit individual client requirements and assist to reduce the risk of driving.

Smart Driver Papers

DriverCare can provide its own publication (the “Smart Driver”) which is a series of articles based on industry knowledge that discuss specific items associated with accident reduction.  This provides organisations with information that can be discussed internally on a regular basis in an effort to change driver attitude and therefore behaviour.  These articles are generally in two parts:

  1. The reasons for accidents and recommendations for drivers.
  2. Training notes for the trainer.

They are designed to be faxed or photocopied and reused as many times as required.  It has been found that regular internal discussion can improve driver attitude and therefore behaviour to encourage responsible driving habits.

Practical Driver Training

DriverCare can arrange and coordinate a number of practical driving courses via external certified driver trainers, including:

  • Active Driver Safety Program

An interactive 2 hour experience conducted at your premises or nominated venue. The focus of this program is on increasing the driver’s understanding that a motor vehicle is a dangerous piece of equipment and explores the reasons why motor vehicle accidents occur and the influence of the three variables - driver, vehicle and conditions. This allows the attendees to discuss better ways to modify thought processing, and in turn influence driver behaviour.

  • Smart Driving Program – How to Lower Vehicle Running Costs

An interactive 2 hour program conducted at your premises or nominated venue. The program uncovers how vehicle fuel consumption and C02 emissions are directly linked to driver behaviour, skill and knowledge. It will teach drivers how to combine a positive mental attitude with a proactive driver awareness and safe driving strategy.

  • Defensive Driver Training

A full day in-car training course conducted at a nominated venue. The course combines both theory and practical sessions that will teach drivers preventative techniques to avoid accidents and to experience actual car handling under different emergency situations.
